Kia ora,
April has been a month of transition here at Costar Florals — both in the shop and out on the farm.
🌿 On the farm
We’re gearing up for a big planting season, with around 8,000 plugs arriving, alongside 1,000 tulips making their way to us this month.
While the tulips won’t be ready until the end of August, it’s exciting knowing what’s ahead for spring.
Some of the varieties coming in include:
-
Ranunculus
-
Icelandic poppies
-
Snapdragons
-
Delphiniums
We’ll be busy prepping the gardens to get everything in the ground, as well as sowing a few additional varieties ourselves in preparation for Spring 2026.
There’s something really grounding about this part of the process — setting everything up now for what’s to come.
🌸 In the shop — Te Kūiti Florist life
Wedding season is slowly winding down, but things in the shop have been picking up in other ways.
We’ve been learning more about what people in Te Kūiti are loving when they come in for flowers and gifts, and refining our range to reflect that.
Right now, you’ll find:
-
A growing range of baby gifting
-
A curated selection of New Zealand-made products
-
A smaller, more intentional range of home and self-care items
-
And now… indoor pot plants, which have been getting such a great response
It’s been a gradual process, but one I’m really enjoying — shaping the shop into something that truly reflects our community.
🌼 What’s happening locally
We’ve got the New Zealand Muster happening on the 11th — always such a great event for Te Kūiti and the wider community. It’s awesome to see the town come alive.
🤍 A little note
One of the best parts of this journey has been becoming part of the Te Kūiti community.
I’ve really loved meeting people, having chats in the shop, and getting to know locals — it’s something I genuinely enjoy every single day.
So if you’re ever in town (or grabbing a pizza nearby), feel free to pop in and say hi. I’m always up for a kōrero.
Ngā mihi,
Kahu
